Confidence Workshop:: Real Beauty/Spa Day, Part 2

After we spent the first half of the Real Beauty Confidence Workshop Day digging into such a vulnerable subject on self-

esteem, body image (and the media), and negative\positive self talk,

these 9 to 11 year old girls were itching to dive into

the fun part.

{Spa day}

The body laguage in the room shifted quite quickly,

from

 nervous hand fidgeting, downward eye gazing, shoulders slumped, and all the muscles in their faces relaxed

as they were speaking about their insecurities to the group….

or listening to the videos and all their thoughts racing through their minds (exposed to me) of their

individual struggles with

{self}

to

happy smiles, raised eyebrows, shoulders rolled back,

hugs,

warm eyes, giggling hearts, and  encouraging words exchanged to one another.

Such beautiful

{confidence}

radiated through the room.

My 15 year old, Kayla, helped create an assembly line of fun with me.

I demonstrated the messy bun hairstyle and then

one by one

I had the opportunity to do their hair.

Each girl had the messy bun hairstyle done to them and the look was completed with

their choice of headband to accessorize it.

As each girl was having their turn, the other girls waited with excitement to see

the end result of their friend’s hair.

They would tell each other how beautiful they were,

their eyes were lit up, and their smiles were contagious.

{beyond sweet}

After they had their hair done, up next was cucumber facials

with Kayla. They giggled at each other and Kayla laughed with them as the cucumbers kept slipping

off their faces.  Not only was it nice to be able to nurture their confidence, I really think it was rewarding to my

daughter’s

confidence by helping them.

{actually, I know it was}

 After the facials were complete, we gathered back into the oval (on the ground).  We talked about having a good skin

care and hair care routine.  I shared some of my favorite inexpensive facial recipes with baking soda, honey, cinnamon,

coconut oil, and avacados. We talked about common skin problems teenagers face and how we could keep our skin

healthy.  I shared my love for dry shampoo.

They had never heard of it and loved the smell.  We talked about caring for our hair and how washing it everyday can be

harsh and the dry shampoo would be perfect for in between washes (absorbs the “sheen” we get from the oil we

produce without stripping the hair from the benefits of our natural oils).

And you know what?

They wanted to know if boys had to take care of their skin, too!

Confidence Workshop:: Real Beauty/Spa Day, Part 2

My answer (?)

{Ummm, yes…they should.}

Confidence Workshop:: Real Beauty/Spa Day, Part 2

I finished up our talk on reminding them the importance of taking care of their bodies with getting good sleep, good

nutrition/drinking water, being active, and practicing a good hygiene routine.

All these things would help build their

self-esteem

self-image

self-concept

{how they feel about themselves.}

And to help keep up a good hygiene routine, a take away was a must!  Each bag was adorned with

encouraging/empowering

words and filled with the necessities

to encourage the routine.

After smelling the deodorant, they decided to put it on right then.

As each girl left, Kayla and I were swarmed with the best hugs…

and were shown lovable appreciation for our time.

I was reminded on how being of service to others builds my

{self confidence.}

What a beautiful gift I was given, when I wasn’t expecting anything back.

***

Real Beauty comes from within, comes from how we feel about ourselves,

how we accept ourselves, and how we love ourselves.

What does Real Beauty mean to you?
